What is a ‘Mummy Makeover’

Becoming a mother

Motherhood is a wonderful journey that brings unconditional love, joy and fulfilment, but the fast pace and demands of being a mum can leave very little time for self-care and rejuvenation. Attempting to lose pregnancy weight whilst getting very little sleep in the first year of your baby’s life, is just one of the challenges a mum can face when it comes to their own health and wellbeing.

The postpartum female body

The female body undergoes many changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding and for some women these changes can lead to low self-confidence and poor body image. The physical toll of pregnancy and childbirth can lead to changes such as sagging breasts, excess skin and stretched abdominal muscles. Remembering and making time for self-care is a very important part of being a mum.

What is a mummy makeover?

The mummy makeover has become a popular procedure in the field of cosmetic surgery, offering mothers the chance to regain and improve their self-esteem, body confidence and appearance and to prioritise their self-care and wellbeing.

A mummy or ‘mommy’ makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures designed to rejuvenate and restore a woman’s body post pregnancy. It consists of an Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) often with Liposuction and abdominal wall repair to improve the contour and appearance of the abdomen & waist and Breast Implants and/or a Breast Uplift (Mastopexy). It’s not a ‘one size fits all’ procedure and includes a combination of the above procedures, tailored to the individual woman’s body shape and goals.

A mummy makeover procedure helps you to regain your pre-pregnancy body with results that exercise and diet alone are not able to produce.

Whilst it is recommended that a woman gets a mummy makeover anywhere between 30-50 years old, bear in mind that there’s not a ‘right’ age to undergo this cosmetic procedure and the optimal time and age for you will depend on your individual circumstances and goals.

Hiroshi is highly experienced in these types of procedures and performs mummy makeover surgery under local anaesthetic and sedation at The Westbourne Centre in Birmingham. This is an ideal and preferred option for mothers that don’t want to go under general anaesthetic.
