Tummy Tuck Surgery following C-Section

Becoming a mother is a life-affirming time for women. The female body has artfully changed and adapted to grow a little miracle inside, but some women find the changes that pregnancy and a C-section birth brings both mentally and physically challenging to deal with. Nothing can really prepare a woman for C-section surgery, particularly if it is an emergency C-section and the recovery can sometimes be long and life changing. The emotional scars are as significant as the physical ones and the physiological effects of a C-section scar can often be one of the main drivers for women to seek reconstructive surgery.

Hiroshi recommends waiting at least 6-12 months and possibly longer if breast-feeding before having a tummy tuck, otherwise known as an Abdominoplasty, allowing the body to fully heal following childbirth.

An Abdominoplasty can address a variety of concerns in the abdominal area by:

  • Repairing and tightening abdominal muscles that have separated – a common issue with pregnancy
  • Removing C-section scars which generally exist above the bikini line, be raised and show through clothing
  • Removing excess pregnancy fat and loose/sagging skin that will not tighten with exercise
  • Removing stretch marks on the abdomen
  • Contouring the belly and waistline to achieve a more aesthetically appealing appearance

During your consultation, Hiroshi takes time to understand your aims and needs as a patient and conducts a thorough examination. Only an experienced and accurate clinical assessment will lead on to the correct advice and treatment. Hiroshi believes that this is the only way to ensure that his patients are happy and satisfied with their results.

Mini-Tummy Tuck

A mini-tummy tuck targets the lower abdominal area and is the least invasive type of tummy tuck surgery. A single incision is made just above the pubic area which enables Hiroshi to repair and tighten loose muscles and remove any excess skin and fat. The belly button isn’t realigned or touched during this procedure.

A mini-tummy tuck helps to achieve a smooth, flat lower abdominal wall with a small scar, which is about half the length of a full tummy tuck scar. As the least invasive surgery option, recovery is quicker and easier than other tummy tuck procedures.

Full-Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck targets the lower and upper abdomen and is the best procedure to address roundness and excess skin below and above the belly button. A u-shaped incision is made above the pubic area and a second incision around the belly button. The scar usually runs from hip to hip but Hiroshi places it so that it can be covered by a bikini/swimsuit wherever possible. A full tummy tuck helps to achieve a smoother and flatter abdomen and also works to reduce the amount and appearance of stretch marks.
